Reintroduced as a discipline at last year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, golf will be part of the schedule for the Summer Games held in Tokyo, Japan in 2020 and, following confirmation earlier this month, in Paris, France four years later.
Great Britain and Ireland’s Justin Rose became the first men’s gold medal winner of the event since 1904, with 2016 Race to Dubai winner and Open Champion Henrik Stenson, from Sweden, winning the silver medal.
No stranger to hosting world-class golf, Le Golf National, a European Tour Destination, has been the venue of the HNA Open de France on 21 occasions, as well as the European Senior Tour’s Paris Legends Championship.
The executive board of the International Olympic Committee recommended golf, along with rugby sevens, to be included in the program for the 2024 Games, and the decision, taken by IOC members at the IOC session in Lima, ratifies the earlier recommendation to retain all 28 sports that featured at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
